RiversEdge West’s (REW) former leader and Executive Director, Stacy Beaugh, moved on from REW after nearly 10 years at the helm to pursue new directions in support of her family. As the organization’s second-ever Executive Director, Stacy hired a strong team, fostered a culture of passion and excellence, and transitioned REW to new heights of sustainability with improved organizational management practices, a greater number of engaged supporters, and a diversified, sustainable funding stream.

After Stacy’s departure, the Board of Directors set out to find someone with the right vision and experience to lead the organization through this next phase of RiversEdge West’s evolution.  We are delighted to announce that we have found that leader. Rusty Lloyd will be serving in the role of Executive Director.

Rusty began his career here in Colorado as a ranger for Colorado State Parks, before transitioning to natural resource management and wildland firefighting with the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service. From 2004 to early 2011, he was the Director for Western Colorado Conservation Corps, a youth and young adult employment program.

Rusty is no stranger to RiversEdge West and brings strong connections in the riparian restoration field; for the past eight years, Rusty has served as RiversEdge West’s Program Director. He holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Park Resource Management from Kansas State University.

Rusty is passionate about spending time outdoors any chance he gets with his wife Jami and three children. In his own words:

“My motivation and hope are that my children and other future generations will have the same opportunities to create rich and meaningful outdoor experiences as I have and that they will have the passion, information, and tools they need to be the stewards of our rivers and natural resources for years to come.  Working for RiversEdge West affords me the opportunity to blend my aspiration to make both an immediate and future impact on the health of rivers and the communities that depend on them.” (continue reading below for his full letter)

Please join us in welcoming Rusty in his new role as Executive Director.  If you have questions or comments as we chart our course for the next phase, please let us know.  We remain committed to the same values and programs that have served communities and made a difference for rivers for the past 16 years, and look forward to what’s to come.

Dear Friends and Partners,

I am excited and honored to begin a new chapter with RiversEdge West as I serve in the role of Executive Director.  This is an incredible opportunity to continue working for a leading organization focused on the restoration and stewardship of our western rivers.

As I step out of my role as the Program Director and transition into the role of Executive Director, one of my main priorities is to continue fostering meaningful working relationships and collaborations that I helped to build in this position over the last eight years.  Our rivers face innumerable pressures and challenges, but I am optimistic that we will continue to make a positive and lasting impact through our collective work.

For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for the outdoors and a desire to work on conserving natural resources.  I am eager to apply my many personal and professional experiences gained over the last 20 years of work in the conservation field to guide RiversEdge West into the next phase of its evolution.  As we grow and acclimate to an ever-changing world, we will continue to strive towards organizational sustainability, adaptability, and perseverance.

I would also like to recognize the tremendous effort put forth by staff and board - an amazing group of talented people who make our organization what it is today.  Their collective skills and passion are unmatched and I appreciate their dedication to our work and look forward to leading the organization to a bright future alongside them.

My motivation and hope are that my children and other future generations will have the same opportunities to create rich and meaningful outdoor experiences as I have and that they will have the passion, information, and tools they need to be the stewards of our rivers and natural resources for years to come.  Working for RiversEdge West affords me the opportunity to blend my aspiration to make both an immediate and future impact on the health of rivers and the communities that depend on them.

I look forward to working with you all!

Sincerely,

Rusty Lloyd
