A note from our President, Jay Wilcox

November 9th, 2021

Hello RiversEdge West Friends!

This summer, I visited the Hoover Dam while in Las Vegas with my husband. In the old visitor’s center, there is a 3D topo map showing the rivers in the American southwest. As the President of the RiversEdge West Board, I have seen a lot of maps of river basins. There was something different about this one - it highlighted the full footprint of the Colorado River Basin and illustrated how every tributary flows into the same body of water.  In that moment, I was struck by just how connected – and interconnected – we truly are, that water is a powerful force that brings us together.

The Colorado River, with all its majesty and beauty, is one of my favorite places in the world. The peace and tranquility that comes with floating along the flat water naturally lends itself to introspection, while faster water brings thrill and awe! I always come away feeling humbled by the largeness of the experience, which is something I want everyone to be able to have – now and many years into the future.

This is one of the reasons I have devoted my time and energy to RiversEdge West. It is an organization that truly understands the connectedness of rivers, and the communities that depend on them. From the time I joined the Board of Directors in 2017 until now, I’ve been most impressed by the ability of RiversEdge West to bring together a vast group of stakeholders with one intent – improving the health of our riparian areas. As a collaborator and connector myself, I see the value in not only the vision of the organization but also the day-to-day work. We hope you do too.

As we enter this season of celebration and giving, I invite you to join our community by adding RiversEdge West to your “donation list”! We have built a $10,000 matching fund with donations from Chevron, Alpine Bank, Hoskin, Farina and Kampf, Silicon Valley Bank and our devoted Board Members. We are looking for supporters - like you! - to match it. Our goal is to raise a total of $20,000 for RiversEdge West by year end.

As we look forward to 2022 – it’s our 20th anniversary of doing amazing restoration work in riparian areas in the Western US – we are excited to connect across this landscape even more. We’ve got a lot to celebrate and are grateful for your participation in our work.
