Volunteer Event in Bedrock, CO

October 8th, 2021 to October 10th, 2021
Bedrock, CO
Join the Dolores River Restoration Partnership, Dolores River Boating Advocates, RiversEdge West, and Bureau of Land Management in a volunteer stewardship project on October 8, 9, and 10th in Bedrock, CO!
We need help extending a wooden baffle structure that was installed in 2019 to re-direct ephemeral (intermittent) flows from East Paradox Creek, back to its historic path towards the Dolores River.
In 2015, a flood event washed out the channel of East Paradox Creek and water started flowing north and away from the Dolores River. As a result, a large cottonwood gallery along the Dolores began drying up.
This unique project will be a great experience to learn about the Dolores River and provide a meaningful opportunity to make a difference. This will require somewhat challenging manual labor, using augers and shovels to dig holes and lift large wooden posts, so be ready to work hard. There will also be less strenuous opportunities to help, such as cutting tamarisk or helping cook for everyone.
We will camp on private land in the project area on October 8th and 9th and provide two dinners, two breakfasts, and two lunches for volunteers.
The original wooden baffle structure set in place to re-direct flows from East Paradox Creek, back to its historic path towards the Dolores River.
The baffle in action! Re-directing flows to the Dolores River.
