Pre-vegetated Coir Mats: When, Where, and How to Use Them

Pre-vegetated coir products are a relatively new tool used in habitat restoration. Over the last 20 years North Fork Native Plants has accumulated experience and information on the best way to utilize pre-vegetated coir mats along waterways in the west. This product offers erosion control, weed inhibition, and facilitates the rapid establishment of native vegetation—all within a single product. We will examine project examples that have seen both successes and failures while utilizing pre-vegetated coir mats. Additionally, we will delineate the most optimal circumstances for deploying this tool on restoration sites.
